Hale Koa Poolside in Waikiki

After some shopping at the flea market, we headed to the Hale Koa in Waikiki for some pool time, complete with poolside drinks. Then it was off to wander around Waikiki where we found the best restaurant... Senor Frogs - good food, crazy atmosphere with free shots, dance floor & DJ, karaoke, balloon hats and line dancing. Totally crazy and kids welcome. So fun! Joey and Ella turned out to be our dance entertainment for the evening. All the kids crashed out for the night on the way home...

Kailua Beach

We took Suzanne, Jason, and the kids to one of our favorite beaches...and one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (according to travel magazines). Suzanne and I spent most of the afternoon "surfing" while the guys watched the kids. Ella, under Ron's watchful eye and in an inner tube that was too big for her, took a tumble in the surf and ended up with half the sandbar in her hair, up her nose and in her ears... I looked over to see Ron carrying Ella, screaming from the surf while the inner tube washed up on shore. After that it was "I want to swim with only Mommy"... geez, ya think?

BEACH!

Suzanne and Jason arrived on Wednesday and we've done nothing but beaches - we love it ...and so does my tan. Yesterday we went to Ko Olina for the day and today after hiking Diamond Head (except Ella and I) we headed to Hanauma Bay. After closing down the beach we ate pizza and watched the sunset ...

Gymnastics

Ella was so excited to take Daddy to gymnastics this morning. She wore her princess tutu from Grandma and danced around the living room while we were getting ready to leave: "I do ballet, Mommy!"
Ella with her gymnastics friends...
And some videos with Daddy at gymnastics:

And this afternoon, still in her gymnastics outfit dancing with Elmo...do we see a modeling career ahead of us???

Ko Olina

This morning, Ella and I headed out to Ko Olina to meet Carrie, Lukas and Isaac. The kids romped in the sand while Carrie and I caught up. Ron's watching the Superbowl with friends so what better way to spend a Sunday than on a beach!

Happy 5

Five years ago, Ron and I married in a small little chapel in Georgia. It's been wonderful 5 years and I am just as in love with my husband today as I was then. I get to spend each day with the two loves of my life and the fact that I have such a kind husband who is a doting father makes me one lucky girl.
Happy Anniversary, my love. May the next 5 and 50 be as full of love, joy and adventure as these past 5.
xo T.

Here are my two loves at bedtime tonight...

Dentist

Ella had a dentist appointment this morning. Though she's been twice before, she's still too young to fully know what's expected of her. A lady in the waiting room asked how old she was...4? Nope, not quite 3. The first hygienist had Ella sit in the chair by herself (she's always sat on my lap in the chair) and then asked me to step out while she took some x-rays. I was a little annoyed because Ella loves going to the dentist (or doctor) but started to seem a little panicky when I stepped into the hall. I just keep talking to her anyway but was annoyed that perhaps the hygienist didn't realize that she's still very young - too young for a "procedure" alone.

She wanted 4 x-rays, but only got 2 as all the instructions "open your mouth, bit down, tilt your chin up, don't move" didn't go over so well. Ella was great and I was so proud of her. She would do exactly what the lady asked but when the lady walked away to take the x-ray, Ella would look around for one of us.

Once the second hygienist came in to clean Ella's teeth, all was good. Ella didn't fuss at all, just listened and followed directions. She would look at me and break into a smile - you could tell she was proud of herself. I did manage to take pictures with the cell phone....

Mini Me

Ella has picked up on everything I have ever said or done and will mimic me at random and can be quite defiant too:

Ella, hand on hip: "Mommy, you come here right now!" (totally me)

"Humph! I told YOU Mommy!" (totally me again)

If she is frustrated: "Errrrrrrrr" (yep, still me)

When she plays with my hair: "Now you be good Mommy." (me when I brush her hair)

Now just being defiant:

"No, Mommy, you sit down. Ella do it."

Ella, hands on hips will stomp her foot: "I don't want it." Meaning "I don't want to... go to bed/brush my hair/get dressed/clean up..."

But my favorite phrases:

"I love you too, Mommy"

"It's slipily!" Meaning "slippery" when referring to the vinyl floors I've washed, water on the floor, socks on the aforementioned floors, or her satin pajama bottoms.

"Oh no!" complete with hands on cheeks mouth open (think "Home Alone" kid)

"I okay, Mommy." (after a trip, tumble, crash, fall or stumble).

There are so many more, I can't keep track.

25 Random Things About Me

This is going around Facebook but I thought I'd post it here instead of where anyone could see it. I thought it was interesting and funny to think about and may do one for Ella....

1. I enjoy being a mother far more than I ever could have believed possible.
2. I want another baby.
3. I loathe racism and hate judgmental people but that in it self makes me pretty judgmental.
4. I usually think I am right.
5. My girlfriends are my sisters and I miss them everyday.
6. I have little tolerance for ignorance… again the judgmental thing.
7. I have never been arrested or been to jail.
8. I don’t enjoy massages but love my back gently scratched.
9. I want to go back to school, but have no idea for what. And it changes all the time (medical field, accounting, interior design…)
10. I miss my mom and wish I paid more attention to her advice. I have so many questions that I would have never asked her, but wish I did.
11. I met my husband in a bar. Although technically our first date was dinner through a friend, the first time I saw him was in a bar… we usually leave that part out.
12. I am flaky. I bounce around in decisions and change my mind often.
13. I exercise because I have to not because I enjoy it and I don’t believe people when they say they love it.
14. I have so many gray hairs it’s not even funny but plan to conceal this until it falls out! :)
15. I am quite shy and often get mistaken for being snobbish.
16. I am scared to go back into the work force after 3.5 years. Not sure I even want to, I love being a stay-at-home mom to Ella.
17. I love mountains and the ocean and have no desire to live somewhere without them.
18. I am fiercely loyal to my girlfriends and will stand up for them.
19. I am not a morning person. I NEED sleep and least 8 hours of it. I get up with Ella out of necessity, but it takes me an hour and a huge cup of coffee to function. I can stay up all night no matter how tired I am.
20. I have a crush on Barack Obama.
21. I am very clean, though I’m okay with clutter, dirt bothers me. I think I am borderline OCD when it comes to organization and organizing makes me happy in an odd sort of way… I could get paid to organize other people’s clutter and love it.
22. I think my husband is very sexy. He is kind and intelligent, a great father and husband… sometimes I pinch myself.
23. I spent hours calling into a celebrity charity baseball game to talk to Kirk Cameron when I was 12. I was gravely disappointed when Jackson Davies from “The Beachcombers” was the one on the phone.
24. My favorite TV show as a kid was “Rags to Riches”… no one but Erin remembers it too.
25. As much as I fought it as a teen or in my 20’s, I see more and more of my mom in me every year that passes, and have realized that it is a good thing. Isn’t that the point – take the good from your parents and work on making the rest better. I know as much as I want to teach Ella, I do hope she is wiser, kinder, freer, more ambitious and better educated than me. She’ll just have to take my good and work on making the rest better for herself. Such is life. Maybe she’ll grow up to love exercise – now wouldn’t that be generational improvement!
